History of International Fatigue Congress

The Fatigue 2026 Congress will be the fourteenth edition in a series of major international conferences held since 1981. This series serves as a forum for discussions on both the fundamental aspects and practical applications of fatigue, encompassing all materials and areas of interest—including transportation, energy, electronics, civil engineering, medicine, and more.

The International Fatigue Congress was established in 1981 through the initiative of Professor A.F. Blom of Sweden. The first congress was held in Stockholm, and subsequent editions were hosted every three years in different cities until returning to Stockholm in 2002. To avoid overlapping with other quadrennial conferences like the International Conference on Mechanical Behavior of Materials (ICMBM) and the International Conference on Fracture (ICF), the Fatigue Congress adopted a four-year cycle after 2002.
